DHL Express currently has an opening for a Director ofEngineering . This role requiresa highly motivated, empoweringprofessional dedicated to ensuring DHL’s adherence to unit cost management, operationaloptimization, facility standards and service excellence. This roleprovidesleadership to theprocess engineering andinfrastructure teams. TheDirector of Ground Operations and Engineeringworks collaboratively with colleagues in other areas of the businesstosupport and exceed customer expectations and requirements.

How will you contribute to the success ofDHL?

·Safety-First, ensures that facilities and processes are engineered to ensure the safety and well-being of our people 

·Representsthe company externally to local municipalitiesand other government agencies 

·DriveOperational KPI’s in cost and service.Prepares or arranges preparation ofengineering’sconsolidatedbudget, reports, and forecasts and ensures they are communicatedin a timely mannerto top management 

·Develop and implement initiatives that will ensure DHLprovides market-leading service relative to our cost position driving innovation and delivering on our customer promise 

·Ensure DHL meets its regulatory and environmental obligations, manage contractors service performance levels 

·Effective implementation and execution of theGSOP policies and objectives within the Canadian service center & gateway operations 

·Manage the implementation of significant, country-wide, Network wideprograms/projectsin alignment with Regional and Global programs and strategies 

·Develop and implement ground operations and engineering strategies to support businessobjectives, including delivery network optimization, transportation planning, and equipment maintenance

·Manage and develop a team of ground operations and engineering staff membersincluding Managers, Supervisors, and engineers

·Establish best practices, methodologies, and standards for ground operations and engineering

·Work closely with cross-functional teams toidentify opportunities to improve delivery efficiency and customer satisfaction

·Providetechnical expertise and guidance to teams and stakeholders

·Evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies, and processes to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability

·Manage ground operations, engineering, and infrastructure projects from conception to delivery

·Ensure that material handling equipment comply with relevant regulations, policies, and standards.

·Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and external partners

·Contributes precedent-setting innovations/solutions. 

·Negotiates highly complex, technical contractual issues on behalf of the company. 

·Forecasts facility, vehicle, staffing and/or material handling equipment needs in order to improve cost, utilization, service, and efficiencies.

·Determineorganization structure, roles and responsibility and performance targets for the functions. Develop IKOs/KPIs/IDPS with team and monitor individual performance

Do you have what it takes?

  • Minimum of 7 experience in senior operations / network management roles with at least 5 years of experience in an internationalservice relatedenvironment 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing a team of engineers and operations staff members

  • University Degree in Business Management orEngineering or equivalent experience

  • Proventrack recordof building and leading teams. Knows the talent needs of the team and attracts and develops people who can meet those needs 

  • Encourages effective cooperation among team members and between teams 

  • Inspires team spirit and the commitment to achievehigh standardsof performance 

  • Strategic vision and insight of market evolution with strong analytical skills, planning anddecision-makingcompetencies 

  • Strong technicalexpertisein ground operations and engineering.

  • Experience with transportation planning, delivery network optimization, andparcel sortationsystems

  • Experience building and managing partnerships (e.g.suppliers, joint venture partners, industry groups, competitors, governments, unions) to achieve mutual goals 

  • Strongnegotiator and able to influence decision making in a matrix organization environment, experience with organizational change management 

  • Interact effectively at cross-cultural, cross divisional and all business levels and make use of their informal and formal networks to build the commitment of senior stakeholders to outcomes which will have a major and lasting impact forDHL Express 

  • Experience working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
